Some awards are aimed at encouraging specific groups or individuals into the study.
Allan Gray Orbis Foundation was founded back in 2005 as part of Allan Gray’s objectives to contribute to Southern Africa by cultivating responsible entrepreneurship from the country. The foundations currently run not only in South Africa, but also in Namibia, Botswana, and Swaziland.
Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Bursary Application Details 2024 /2025
The Foundation’s Fellowship programme supports individuals by nurturing their entrepreneurship skills to create valuable businesses that will contribute to the community. The programme beneficiaries, which are known as Candidate Allan Gray Fellows will receive financial assistance for their tertiary education as well as support to develop their entrepreneurial mindset.
The Fellowship will pay for the full cost of university tuition, the full cost of university accommodation as well as meals, books and tutor allowances, a monthly living allowance, academic support and access to an entrepreneurial and personal development programme, mentorship and access to potential postgraduate funding for graduated Candidate Fellows. Candidate Allan Gray Fellows are not bound to any obligation and will not be required to work for the foundation after the completion of their studies. They may also seek other funding sources from other providers as long as the other providers allow them so.

Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
GRADE 12
- Level 5 in Pure Mathematics for Grade 11 final results
- Level 6 average for your final Grade 11 results (excluding Life Orientation)
- Completion of the National Benchmark Test by 30 September 2018
- Below 21 years old in the year of the application
- South African Citizenship
- Applicants who wish to pursue tertiary studies in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Engineering, Law or Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics) at partnered university mentioned above
1ST YEAR UNIVERSITY
- A minimum average of 65% for your 2018 mid-year (June) exam results
- Applicants who wish to pursue tertiary studies in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics), Engineering or Law at partnered university mentioned above
- Below 22 years old in the year of their application
- South African Citizenship
2ND YEAR UNIVERSITY
- A minimum average of 65% for your 2017 year-end exam and 65% in 2018 mid-year exam
- Applicants who wish to pursue tertiary studies in Commerce, Science (excluding Medicine), Humanities (majoring in Politics, Philosophy or Economics), Engineering or Law at partnered university mentioned above
- Below 23 years old in the year of their application
- South African Citizenship
