You will be responsible for carrying out various duties necessary for the efficient maintenance and operation of the deck department onboard the vessel.

Your role will:

• Performing helmsman or lookout duties.
• Performing mooring and berthing duties as directed.
• Performing flight deck duties when helicopter operations are conducted and stands by with fire-fighting and ancillary equipment for possible emergencies.
• Preparing and launching lifeboats / rescue boats by using davits, derricks or cranes as directed.
• Operating cranes and derricks for the loading and discharging of stores and equipment.
• Maintaining the ship’s structure by chipping, scraping and preparing steel or wood surfaces for the application of primer, varnish or topcoat as directed.
• Assisting in the rigging of machinery.
• Adheres to Company policies and procedures relating to health, safety, security and environmental issues.
• Operates cranes and derricks for loading & discharging of stores/spares.

Formal qualifications:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• SAMSA Competency Certificate STCW 2010 Able Seafarer Deck [AB]

Additional requirements:

• Legal or Operational Compliance
• Maintenance Skills
• Mobile equipment operating skills

Role-specific knowledge:

• Sea going experience on deck of a vessel
