WEST COAST DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY

TRAINING OPPORTUNITY IN THE WEST COAST REGION

The West Coast District Municipality is inviting suitably qualified applicants residing in the
West Coast Region to apply for the Fire and Rescue learnership.
The learnership entails undergoing theoretical and practical training at the West Coast District Municipality.

Unemployed persons between the age of 18 and 34 years old, who wish to make a career in
the fire and rescue services need to apply on the Application Form for Fire and Rescue
Learnership.

Minimum Requirements:

Resident of South Africa 
Grade 11 / NQF Level 3 Communication and Mathematics Literacy 
Valid Code B Driver’s Licence 
Must be able to communicate in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape 
Attention to detail 
Must be mentally and physically fit and healthy 
Candidates will be subjected to a fitness test (Medical & Physical)

Other requirements:

Applicants must enjoy good health and be willing to undergo a medical and substance abuse
examination; 
Applicants must be willing to undergo a physical fitness test and participate in an interview; 
Successful applicants will be required to sign a 12-month Learnership Agreement.

Prescribed application forms are available from your local municipality offices or library, or on the
website at www.westcoastdm.co.za/vacancies.html or during office hours from Training and
Development on 022-433 8400.. Completed application forms, accompanied by not older than
three (3) months certified copies of ID, highest school and other qualification and driver’s licences,
are to be forwarded to West Coast District Municipality, Training and Development, P.O. Box
242, Moorreesburg, 7310 or handed in at your local municipality offices. Applicants must clearly
indicate on the envelope “APPLICATION FOR FIRE AND RESCUE LEARNERSHIP”.

Please Note: Council reserves the right not to make an appointment. No late applications or applications
via fax or e-mail will be accepted. Canvassing will disqualify a candidate.

Should no feedback from this office be received within 60 days of the closing date, candidates may assume
that their applications have been unsuccessful.
