The call for Applications is open for the M100 Young European Journalists Workshop 2020. M100 is looking for European journalists for their decentral online M100YEJ workshop on the role of local journalism in a global world and the future of the European media order.
The M100 Young European Journalists Workshop (M100YEJ) is part of the renowned annual international media conference M100 Sanssouci Colloquium. Due to the Covid situation, the workshop will be held as a decentralized online event over a period of six weeks.
Program Details
The workshop modules consist of theoretical inputs, joint discussions as well as practical case studies and joint project work in which the newly acquired knowledge can be applied and which are directly related to the professional needs of the participants. A key element of the workshop is an interdisciplinary scenario process on the future of our European media landscape in 2030.
The results will be presented and widely disseminated at the international media conference M100 Sanssouci Colloquium, one of the leading international dialog and discussion forums on questions about the role of the media in international affairs and democracy. During the conference, the young journalists will also be involved in online discussions with international thought leaders from the media, politics and science. The workshop will take place in English.
2020 Theme:
The local-global nexus: Exploring new strategies for local journalism in the post-covid era
This year’s M100YEJ workshop will focus on the role of local journalism in a global world and aim to develop concrete strategies for sustainable, innovative local journalism in a global world. Together we want to answer the question of how independent local journalism can perform its functions for democracy and be profitable under changing technological and social conditions.
Eligibility
- Young journalists aged 21 and 30 from all over Europe, including the countries of the European Union, the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) and Russia are welcome to apply send in an application in English.
- Potential participants work as journalists, bloggers or scientists.
- They should be passionate about their role in the democratic process and have an active interest in the future of the media, journalism and democracy.

- Please send a meaningful application with an essay, CV and letter of motivation.
- Selected applicants will be invited to a Skype interview.
- Also send an essay in English that addresses the following questions:
Shortly present your vision for media and journalism in the post-covid era, including key challenges and opportunities in the post-covid era. (6,000 characters maximum, including spaces).
