Robben Island Museum (RIM) was founded in 1997 by the Department of Arts and Culture. Its purpose is to manage, maintain, develop and promote Robben Island as a national estate and World Heritage Site. RIM conserve the island’s natural resources and cultural heritage by implementing various conservation, research and tourist development programmes.

Robben Island Museum (RIM) Bursary Application Details 2022/2023

Robben Island Museum is now inviting South African graduates and undergraduates for its bursary scheme. The bursary is granted to partially cover tuition fees, at a maximum amount of R33 000 per selected student.

Bursary holders will be required to do an Internship and Research programme at RIM Public Heritage Education Department (RIM PHED), as well as participate in various RIM programmes.

Robben Island Museum Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

  • South African citizens
  • Students who have applied independently at a South African University for the 2020 academic year
  • Applicants who are registered to study accredited courses related to Museums and Heritage studies, Social Science, History or Oral History and Heritage
