About St Joseph Theological Institute
St. Joseph ‘s Theological Institute has been registered with the South African Department of Higher Education and Training as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1977 (Act No 101 of 1977). Our registration number is 2003/HE08/003.
The Institute is home to more than 200 students and 40 staff members, comprising a mosaic of different cultures from more than 20 African countries, with frequent representation from Asia, Europe, South and North America . Apart from the cultural richness of our members, we are also blessed with the rich diversity of charisms with most students coming from more than 20 male and female religious congregations within the Catholic Church. There are also several diocesan and lay students. (For detailed annual statistics go to our Year Book page. )
St. Joseph ‘s equips candidates for ordained and non-ordained ministry particularly within the Catholic Church. We are also part of an ecumenical cluster comprising the School of Religion and Theology of the local University (UKZN), the Evangelica l Seminary and ourselves. One fruit of this collaboration is Cluster Publications which makes authentic contextual theological works accessible to our students and associates at affordable prices.

In terms of publications, our Grace and Truth journal is a widely read theological periodical. Our Denis Hurley Library is up to international standards and boasts a collection of 40,221 volumes, 108 periodicals, 51 DVDS, 48 CDS, 5 CDROMS and 259 audio cassettes and 299 videos.
