South African Stepfather Gets Two Life Sentences for Raping 15-Year-Old Stepson

A 36-year-old man in South Africa received two life sentences for raping and sexually assaulting his 15-year-old stepson. The victim, his mother, and the Groblersdal community are affected by this case. The sentencing on March 24, 2026, shows the police’s strong push against child abuse and gender-based violence, according to SAnews.gov.za and Limpopo Police.

Police arrested the man on October 11, 2024, at his job on a local farm. The abuse started in 2019 in Masakaneng Informal Settlement, Groblersdal, where he lived with the boy and his mother. He would come home drunk and molest the minor.

The acts grew worse over time. The stepfather forced the boy into rape and other unwanted acts. He often said degrading words during these attacks. This went on for four years.

In 2024, the victim told his mother about the abuse. She reported it to police right away. The man faced many court dates. He got bail at first but was found guilty on two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The Groblersdal Regional Court gave him two life terms for the rapes and five years for the assault this past Tuesday, SAnews.gov.za reported from the police statement.

The stepfather shared a home with the victim and his mother. Warrant Officer Victoria Lekgala Phala led the case for the Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit. She worked hard to bring charges.

Police said: “The abuse escalated to rape with the stepfather forcing himself on the victim to perform unacceptable acts and often uttering degrading words to him.” This detail comes from their statement, as reported by SAnews.gov.za.
