Teko Modise (born 22 December 1982) is a South African retired footballer who played as a midfielder for Cape Town City in the Premier Soccer League.

He is currently a staff member in Cape Town City, a role he took after his retirement.

Salary

Teko Modise was a top footballer in the PSL earning about R450,000 a month. He was amongst the PSL’s highest-paid footballers.

Wife

Teko Modise got married to Felicia in 2010 in a community of property but unfortunately, they divorced in 2013 after Modise failed to pay maintenance. Together, they have a daughter.

He got into a romantic relationship with the South African model Lizelle Tabane. They got engaged but after rumors of infidelity surfaced against her, they broke the engagement in 2015.

He started his football career playing for local amateur sides Coventry and City Rebels.

At the age of seventeen in 1999, he joined Ria Stars after he was scouted by former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs defender, Steve Mnguni.

Teko made his PSL debut in a 1-1 draw with Bidvest Wits in September 2001.

His contract got terminated after Ria stars were bought for R8m by the PSL.

Mvela Golden League side City Pillars then got him signed the following season. With his performance, he helped the club to a last-16 finish in the Nedbank Cup where they were eliminated by Kaizer Chiefs.

Teko Modise later signed for PSL Supersport United in August 2006. He spent just a year and in 2007, he signed a three-year contract with local rivals Orlando Pirates.

He won the inaugural PSL Footballer of the Year award in his debut season and he was also named SAFA Footballer of the Year.

Teko Modise had no official buyout clause in his contract, however, which brought about the club’s refusal to sell him. This brought about a sour relationship with coach Ruud Krol and chairman Irvin Khoza in the two years that followed.

He decided to boycott training and was suspended for boycotting training in 2011. Teko later revealed that he had behaved that way because of the way the club had treated him.

He signed for rivals Mamelodi Sundowns on 27th January 2011. Just in his second season with the club, he was named the club captain.

With his outstanding performance, he was named PSL Midfielder of the Season and Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament.

After the expiration of his contract, he was released from his by Mamelodi Sundowns on 27th June 2017.

He then signed a contract with Cape Town City on 12th July 2017. Teko made his debut for the club on 23 August as a substitute and scored Cape Town City’s third goal in a 3–1 win over Platinum Stars.

International Career

It was until 26th May 2007 that he made his debut for the South African national team against Malawi in the 2007 COSAFA Cup.

He scored his first international goal came that same year against Mauritius during the tournament. Teko made the list for South Africa’s squad for Confederations Cup.

He made the cut for the National’s team 2010 FIFA World Cup which was hosted by South Africa but was criticized after his poor performances in the opening two matches.
