The Scholars Program strives to selected academically talented young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa to access a world-class university education, with comprehensive support systems in place to help them succeed. Over the past 10 years, the program has seen 120 successful undergraduate and graduate scholars complete their degrees at McGill University. The program has been extended for a further 10 years at McGill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligible Field of Study:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eligible Master\u2019s Programs (Non-Thesis ONLY)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Animal Science: Sustainable Agriculture<\/li>\n<li>Bioresource Engineering \u2013 Environmental Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Bioresource Engineering \u2013 Integrated Food &amp; Bioprocessing<\/li>\n<li>Bioresource Engineering \u2013 Integrated Water Resource Management<\/li>\n<li>Biostatistics<\/li>\n<li>Biotechnology<\/li>\n<li>Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry \u2013 Food Science<\/li>\n<li>Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry \u2013 Food Safety<\/li>\n<li>Human Nutrition: Project<\/li>\n<li>Public Health<\/li>\n<li>Public Policy (maximum of 5 Scholars per year)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In order to be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program you must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Be admissible to one of the eligible\u00a0<strong>non-thesis\u00a0programs\u00a0<\/strong>at McGill University<\/li>\n<li>Have never registered for \/completed any graduate studies;<\/li>\n<li>Be a citizen of, and reside in a Sub-Saharan African Country (see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/mastercardfdn-scholars\/apply-program\/eligible-countries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">list of eligible countries<\/a>);<\/li>\n<li>Have a valid passport and be admissible to Canada as an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/study-canada\/study-permit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Student<\/a>\u00a0(requiring a Study Permit).<em>\u00a0Those with dual citizenship, asylee, refugee or permanent resident status in the US, Canada, UK or EU are not eligible.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>You are welcome to apply even if you do not identify with a Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program priority group (listed below), however, those who self-identify with one of the following groups will be given precedence in the selection process.\n<ul>\n<li>Woman<\/li>\n<li>Refugee or Internally Displaced Person<\/li>\n<li>Person with Disabilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Have an exceptional record of service and activity in your school and\/or community;<\/li>\n<li>Have an intent to return to your country immediately upon the completion of your degree with the goal of transforming your community through social and economic development;<\/li>\n<li>Must be less than 35 years old at the time of application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Benefits<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Toward these ends, McGill complements Scholars\u2019 education with a comprehensive support system that includes mentorship, tailored support services, community service opportunities and sustained programming relevant to their personal development.
