The information below is for South African applicants only. Applicants from other eligible countries should contact their government or local representative of the Government of Mauritius for information on how to apply.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-above\">\n<div class=\"field__item\">\n<h3><strong>Degree Level<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Diploma<\/li>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s<\/li>\n<li>Master\u2019s<\/li>\n<li>PhD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-candidate-requirements field--type-text-long field--label-above\">\n<div class=\"field__label\">Candidate Requirements<\/div>\n<div class=\"field__item\">\n<ul>\n<li>South African citizens in good health and with a strong academic record;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Candidates must have an interest in studying in Mauritius and demonstrate a commitment to the development of South Africa;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Candidates must be available to study in Mauritius at the start of their academic programme in September 2024;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0All applicants must meet the entry criteria for their selected study programme in Mauritius;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0All applicants must meet the minimum academic requirement for entry into a similar programme at a South African university;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0All candidates must have proficiency in English;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Not be in receipt of a scholarship from any other public source in Mauritius;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Applicants must have already applied for full-time on-campus studies at any public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius for the academic year starting in 2024. This application must be made as soon as the HEIs have opened their application windows on their respective websites. An applicant may either:<br \/>\n(a) obtain a conditional offer (letter of admission) from their chosen Mauritian public HEI and submit this along with the scholarship application: OR<br \/>\n(b) submit a receipt of payment of the application fee from their chosen Mauritian public HEI along with the scholarship application;<\/li>\n<li>Awardees should abide by latest government regulations regarding public health;<\/li>\n<li>Awardees should abide to the protocols setup by Mauritian authorities for passengers travelling to Mauritius;<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must be prepared to undergo a medical check-up as per the Passport and Immigration Office requirements (<a class=\"ext\" href=\"http:\/\/passport.govmu.org\/\" data-extlink=\"\">http:\/\/passport.govmu.org<\/a>), in any public hospital in Mauritius and the test results shall be submitted to the Passport and Immigration Office, with a copy to the Ministry, not later than one month after arrival in Mauritius.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Undergraduate Scholarship Applicants:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must have successfully completed National Senior Certificate with a Bachelor\u2019s pass and a minimum of 60% average mark achieved, excluding Life Orientation subject;<\/li>\n<li>Applicants should be above 18 years of age and should not have reached their 26<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0birthday by 01 January 2025;<\/li>\n<li>Candidates already holding an undergraduate degree will not be considered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For PhD programme:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must hold an MPhil research degree or equivalent in the relevant field;<\/li>\n<li>Direct entry will be allowed to the Higher Education Institution provided the applicants meet the requirements (indicated in Section 1.6) of the Higher Education Institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For MPhil or MPhil\/PhD programme:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must hold a recognised undergraduate degree with at least an upper second class degree (or CPA \/ GPA greater than 60%) and preferably with a Masters\u2019 degree and meeting the requirement of the Higher Education Institution.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants should not have reached 40 years of age by 01 January 2025;<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must provide the name and written acceptance of their proposed supervisor(s). The list of research themes\/research interests can be consulted from the websites of the different HEIs;<\/li>\n<li>All applicants should submit an\u00a0<strong>Abridged<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Research Proposal for MPhil\/PhD\u00a0<\/strong>as per format below along with their application:\n<ol>\n<li>Proposed Title of Research;<\/li>\n<li>Aims\/Objectives of your Research (max 200 words);<\/li>\n<li>Background and significance of your research (max 200 words);<\/li>\n<li>Brief description of Methodology, indicating clearly how you intend to conduct the research and the data collection (Max 300 words);<\/li>\n<li>Tentative timeframe of your study with an emphasis on data collection;<\/li>\n<li>Any equipment, Lab, software&#8230; that will be required;<\/li>\n<li>Name and contact details of identified supervisors in Mauritius<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Applicants already holding a Ph.D. degree or its equivalent will not be considered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-bursary-enquiries field--type-text-long field--label-above\">\n<h2 class=\"field__label\">Bursary Enquiries<\/h2>\n<div class=\"field__item\">\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>All inquiries should be sent to:\u00a0<strong><a class=\"mailto\" href=\"mailto:mauritiusapplications@dhet.gov.za\" data-extlink=\"\">mauritiusapplications@dhet.gov.za<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-bursary-inclusion field--type-text-long field--label-above\">\n<div class=\"field__label\">Bursary Inclusion<\/div>\n<div class=\"field__item\">\n<p>The Mauritius Government offers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Tuition fees and course-related costs of up to MUR 100 000;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0A monthly living allowance to the value of MUR 14 200 (approximately R5 300);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Students will be entitled to free basic health care in public hospitals in Mauritius;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Return airfare to and from Mauritius by the most economical route.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In terms of accommodation:<br \/>\nAwardees will have to make prior arrangements with the HEI in Mauritius regarding available accommodation facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The South African Government will provide:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One way flight ticket to Mauritius;<\/li>\n<li>Settlement allowance;<\/li>\n<li>Pre-departure orientation;<\/li>\n<li>SAQA verification of qualification;<\/li>\n<li>Board exam fee upon graduation (where applicable).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-how-to-apply field--type-text-long field--label-above\">\n<h2 class=\"field__label\">How to Apply<\/h2>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"field__item\">\n<p><strong><a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/education.govmu.org\/Documents\/2022\/scholarship\/22.12.22\/Call%20for%20Application%202023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-extlink=\"\">Call for Applications<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u200b<\/strong><\/em><strong><a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/education.govmu.org\/Documents\/2023\/Tertiary\/Guidelines%20for%20Applicants%20%20diploma%202024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-extlink=\"\">Guidelines for Applicants\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0Undergraduate degree 2024<\/a><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/education.govmu.org\/Documents\/2023\/Tertiary\/Application%20Form%20undergraduate%202024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-extlink=\"\">\u200b\u200bApplication Form for Undergraduate Programmes<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/education.govmu.org\/Documents\/2023\/Tertiary\/Guidelines%20for%20Applicants%20%20PhD%202024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-extlink=\"\">\u200bGuidelines for Applicants PhD<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/education.govmu.org\/Documents\/2023\/Tertiary\/Application%20Form%20postgraduate%202024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-extlink=\"\">Application Form Postgraduate 2024<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP ONE:\u00a0<\/strong>Submit an application for admission to identified eligible institutions in Mauritius by the closing date<b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The final due date for submission of conditional offer\/proof of application\u00a0<strong>5 April 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP TWO:\u00a0<\/strong>Complete the Mauritius Africa Scholarship Scheme application form and email it to\u00a0<strong><a class=\"mailto\" href=\"mailto:mauritiusapplications@dhet.gov.za\" data-extlink=\"\">mauritiusapplications@dhet.gov.za<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0no later than\u00a0<strong>22 March 2024<\/strong>.\u00a0At this point, applicants are not required to complete section 6 (medical certificate). Applicants are requested to make sure they utilise the correct application form for their level of study.<\/p>\n<p>The following documents\u00a0<strong>MUST<\/strong>\u00a0accompany the completed application form:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Certified copy of the birth certificate (<strong>if you do not have a birth certificate, an affidavit stating so will be required<\/strong>);<\/li>\n<li>Certified copy of Identity Document;<\/li>\n<li>Certified copy of biodata page of the passport;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Certified copies of all post-school academic transcripts and qualification certificates;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Copy of letter of conditional offer by a public Higher Education Institution in Mauritius (if available at time of application) OR proof of application\/ copy of acknowledgment notices from a Mauritian public HEI that the application has been made;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0All postgraduate (Master\u2019s and Ph.D.) applications must attach an abridged research plan, including research aims and objectives, methodology, and social relevance of the proposed study. Please refer to the guidelines for information about the study plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>All documents submitted must be clear and in PDF format (no photographs of documents will be accepted).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP THREE:\u00a0<\/strong>Shortlisted applicants may be required to complete an online questionnaire that will be sent in due course.<\/p>\n<p>Following receipt of the online questionnaire, there will be further shortlisting of applicants going into the next round of selection who may be invited to attend an interview between\u00a0<strong>01 \u2013 05 April 2024<\/strong>. Successful applicants from the interviews will be informed by 10 April 2024 of the next steps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ONLY<\/strong>\u00a0nominated applicants will be requested to submit the medical certificate completed and stamped by a Registered Medical Practitioner in Section 6 of the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship application form. Applicants should be prepared to pay for the medical checkup. The fully completed application document (including section 6) should be submitted to the DHET by no later than\u00a0<strong>15 April 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP FOUR:\u00a0<\/strong>Nominated applicants will be informed of their final nomination and their application will be further reviewed by the Government of Mauritius and the final decision on the successful applicants will be made.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 0px;
