The National Hospital Network (NHN) was founded in 1996 with the prime objective of bringing together leading independently owned private hospitals and medical facilities under one umbrella; to gain synergy and cost effectiveness, and to collaborate on best practice patient care.

NHN hospitals are consistently ranked among the top 20 in South Africa on the Discovery Health Patient Experience Survey (PaSS) rankings, yet the group’s members are continually striving to improve. Our quest for excellence in both medical services and patient care ensures that you can expect state of the art facilities and 5-star patient care at NHN member facilities.

From the smallest 2-bed hospital to NHN’s largest 345-bed hospital, NHN members include single discipline hospitals such as maternity, urology or oncology hospitals through to ophthalmology, psychiatric and general care hospitals, ensuring that NHN members provide a broad spectrum of care – from cradle to grave, birth to sub-acute, with palliative care.

NHN members, including hospitals, day clinics, psychiatric facilities, ophthalmology facilities, sub-acute facilities and rehabilitation facilities are in the major urban areas of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban, as well as in smaller centres including Louis Trichardt, Bela-Bela, Lebowakgomo, eMahlahleni and Nelspruit, which means that NHN facilities and quality care are within easy reach of as many patients as possible. A substantial number of NHN hospitals are BEEE compliant, underscoring NHN’s value as a significant support structure for driving transformation in the private hospital industry.

When it comes to delivering health services, NHN members know that state of the art medical treatment is just a part of the patient wellness big picture. Patients also need the compassion, care and support of everyone around them as they heal and recover.

NHN member facilities take a ‘full circle’ approach to healthcare delivery – delivering advanced medical care in the most comfortable environment with the best possible service. Patients rate NHN hospitals among the best in South Africa, for the simple reason that they deliver truly patient-focused treatment and care. This means that while NHN patients receive world-class treatment from leading health practitioners in state of the art facilities, our facilities still offer good old-fashioned personal care. Every staff member – from admissions and nursing through to support staff – is genuinely concerned about making you comfortable and getting you back on your feet as quickly as possible.
