It is usually awarded to enable a student to attend school, university, or college when they might not be able to, otherwise. Some awards are aimed at encouraging specific groups or individuals into the study.<\/p>\n<p data-birdsend-par-index=\"3\">SAAFoST or the\u00a0South African Association for Food Science and Technology is a non-profit national organization dedicated to the development of food science and technology by publication of a membership magazine,\u00a0<em>Food Science and Technology<\/em>, scientific research, hosting events as well as educational activities related to food technology. Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Northern branches attend to these events and activities of the association.<\/p>\n<h2 data-birdsend-par-index=\"3\">SAAFoST Undergraduate Bursary Application Details 2022\/2023<\/h2>\n<p>SAAFoST Foundation is inviting all interested and qualified students to apply for bursaries in the field of\u00a0Food Science and Technology. The SAAFoST Foundation bursaries will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence, employment equity and demonstrated potential.<\/p>\n<p>The bursary programme will cover the actual tuition fees from the tertiary institution according to the\u00a0statement of account in the name of the bursary holder to a maximum of R35 000.00 per year. The payment will be given directly to the tertiary institution every semester depending on the bursary holder\u2019s academic results in the first semester.<\/p>\n<p>SAAFoST bursary programme is offered for\u00a0<strong>Matriculants, Undergraduates, and Part-Time Bursary for SAAFoST Members<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bursary Conditions:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Bursary holders are required to sign a contract as an agreement to the bursary terms and conditions<\/li>\n<li>SAAFoST Foundation makes the final decision regarding bursary granting and reserves the right not to award a bursary.<\/li>\n<li>Bursary holders are required to provide six-monthly academic progress reports to the\u00a0SAAFoST Foundation which should include participation in\u00a0SAAFoST activities.<\/li>\n<li>The bursary will be converted into a loan repayable in equal installments\u00a0for the following reasons:\n<ul>\n<li>Interruption of studies which includes changing courses<\/li>\n<li>Failure to complete the studies within the required period<\/li>\n<li>Failure of any year or semester of study<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Failure to comply with the conditions and requirements of the bursary programme will result to suspension of the funding for the following year. Should the recipient comply with the conditions and requirements in the subsequent year, including carried over courses from the previous year,\u00a0SAAFoST Foundation will refund to the recipient all the suspended tuition fees and the funding shall continue. However, no repeated courses, subjects or modules shall be paid for by the SAAFoST Foundation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>For Matriculants:<\/strong> Registration for SAAFoST membership is required within the first three months of registration at the tertiary institution. Students must remain active members of SAAFoST for the duration of the\u00a0study.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Bursary Requirements and Eligibility<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>General Qualifications:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>South African citizens who are permanent residents of South Africa for at least 3 years prior to application<\/li>\n<li>Applicants who excel academically will be given preference<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Matriculants Bursary:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Enrolled students for\u00a0full time undergraduate study for a first degree or diploma in the field of Food Science and Technology at an accredited South African Tertiary Institution<\/li>\n<li>Prescribed period of relevant study programmes:\n<ul>\n<li>Undergraduate Degree (up to BSc Hons) \u2013 4 years<\/li>\n<li>B. Tech Degree \u2013 5 years<\/li>\n<li>Diploma \u2013 4 years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Achievement Rating of 5 or 60-69% in Mathematics and Physical Science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Journalism Students\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Bursary<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>B.Sc or B.Tech degree in Food Science and\/or Technology<\/li>\n<li>Enrolled students for full time or part-time post-graduate study for a journalism course of their choice at an accredited South African Tertiary Institution or Training Institute.
