Jimmy Tau (born 23 July 1980) is a retired South African professional footballer who last played for\u00a0Kaizer Chiefs\u00a0in the Premier Soccer League.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He started his footballing career at Basotho Tigers in the 1999\/00 Vodacom League season in the semi-pro ranks.<\/p>\n

In the 2001\/02 season, he made a move to Maritzburg City where he would play alongside Mabhuti Khenyeza. He featured in 28 games that season and helped the team finish to a 3rd place finish.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the 2002\/ 2003 campaign, Tau signed for Orlando Pirates and went on to win the league with the Buccaneers that season.<\/p>\n

In 2005, Tau joined rivals Kaizer Chiefs. and made his debut in the SAA Supa 8 \u00bc final on 20 August 2005 in a 2\u20131 loss to Bloemfontein Celtic.<\/p>\n

He went on the captain the club in a trophy-laden eight-year stay that brought the club two Nedbank Cup trophies, two MTN8 cups, three Telkom Knockout winners\u2019 medals, and the 2012\/ 2013 Absa Premiership trophy.<\/p>\n

His international debut for South Africa came on 8 October 2003 in a 3\u20130 win over Lesotho\u00a0in\u00a0Maseru.\u00a0<\/sup>He also participated in the 2006 AFCON. Tau played his last international match on the 28th of March 2007 against Bolivia in a 1\u20130 loss.<\/p>\n

His retirement from professional football was announced on his 33rd birthday at the Conference Centre, Soweto Hotel in Gauteng on 23 July 2013.<\/p>\n
