Alan Winde (born 18 March 1965) is a South African politician and businessman. He serves as the current\u00a0Premier\u00a0of the Western Cape.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a member of the Democratic Alliance, Winde has previously been a\u00a0Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since 1999.<\/p>\n

He was born in 1965 to Ingrid and William Winde. He had his secondary education at Knysna High School where he matriculated.<\/p>\n

Alan Winde has always been business minded while growing up. He had a few start-ups venturing into printing, selling bicycles, courier services and boat parts in Knysna.<\/p>\n

He later worked as a business consultant for Aldes Business Brokers, a\u00a0South African Top 100 Company<\/p>\n

He is married to Tracy Winde and they are blessed with two beautiful children. Alan Winde lives with his family in the suburb of Claremont, Cape Town.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Alan Winde Political Career<\/h2>\n

Winde was elected Premier of the Western Cape on 22 May 2019 during the first sitting of the Sixth Provincial Parliament and accordingly became the second Democratic Alliance member to hold the office.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Previous positions<\/h3>\n

He was first elected to\u00a0serve as Member of the Provinical Legislature in 1999, a position he held for 10 years before the DA was voted into power in the province.<\/p>\n

Between 1999 and 2009, he served in various political roles, including as Chief Whip of the official opposition and also as the Western Cape Provincial Finance Chairperson.<\/p>\n

In 2009, he became the Western Cape MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism. In 2014, he became MEC for Economic Opportunities, in charge of the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism.<\/p>\n
