Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma (born 27 January 1949) whose full name is Nkosazana Clarice Dlamini-Zuma is a South African politician and anti-apartheid activist.<\/strong><\/p>\n

While at the University of Natal she became an active underground member of the South African Students Organisation and was elected as its deputy president in 1976.<\/p>\n

In 1992 during the convention for a Democratic South Africa (CODESA) she was part of the Gender Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n

In 1994 after the first all-inclusive South African elections she was appointed as Minister of Health in the cabinet of President Nelson Mandela.<\/p>\n

She introduced the Tobacco Products Amendment Bill in 1999, which made it illegal to smoke in public buildings.<\/p>\n

From 1999 to 2009 she served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, under both President\u00a0Thabo Mbeki\u00a0and interim President\u00a0Kgalema Motlanthe, during which tenure she was criticised for her \u201cquiet diplomacy\u201d in response to Zimbabwe\u2019s violent land invasions and anti-white racism.<\/p>\n

In the 2009 general election, she was suggested as a possible ANC candidate for the Presidency and for the leadership of the party. She was nominated for the ANC political party\u2019s deputy presidency by four provinces.<\/p>\n

From May 2009 to 2nd October 2012 she served as the Minister of Home Affairs. She was lauded for turning around the grossly mismanaged department and achieving its first clean audit in 16 years.<\/p>\n
