During this course, you will specialize as a nurse or midwife (or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dictionary.com\/browse\/accoucheur?s=t\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accoucheur<\/a>). This course is also only\u00a0<strong>one year long<\/strong>\u00a0and can only be completed\u00a0<strong>after you have received a diploma or degree in nursing<\/strong>. Unlike the other courses, this course is\u00a0<strong>mostly theoretical<\/strong>. This qualification will also be helpful if you wish to pursue a\u00a0<strong>career in nursing management<\/strong>. This is the\u00a0<strong>postgraduate course<\/strong>\u00a0for an individual who has a diploma in nursing, will have to complete in order to work as a nursing sister in South African Hospitals.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Entry Requirements<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>In order to enroll in a course like this you have to have completed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bachelor in Nursing Sciences<\/strong>\u00a0(or equivalent) or a degree and comprehensive diploma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Diplomas<\/strong>\u00a0in nursing and midwifery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Advanced diploma<\/strong>\u00a0in midwifery, staff nurse and advanced diploma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You also have to\u00a0<strong>have some experience to apply to this course<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 excluding your community service year. You have to have t<strong>wo years of experience as a Professional Nurse<\/strong>\u00a0and\/or Midwife (including at least one year in the field of specialty within the last five years).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What does the course look like?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>This course is designed to teach you how to work like a nurse who is clinically focused, well-informed, competent and innovative. At the end of this course, you will have\u00a0<strong>specialized as a nurse<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>midwife\/accoucheur<\/strong>\u00a0and you will be able to give well-informed scientific care to your patients.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<h3>\u00a0After your Qualification<\/h3>\n<p>After you qualify and register with the\u00a0<strong>SANC<\/strong>, you can choose to work in any number of places, but if you want to\u00a0<strong>study further<\/strong>, you can study a\u00a0<strong>master&#8217;s degree<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>advanced diploma<\/strong>\u00a0in nursing and you can register as an advanced practice nurse. There are\u00a0<strong>two main categories<\/strong>\u00a0of advanced practice nurses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Clinical nurse specialists:\u00a0<\/strong>People who have\u00a0<strong>in-depth and specialized qualifications<\/strong>\u00a0who work closely and collaboratively with other medical practitioners.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advanced nurse practitioner:\u00a0<\/strong>A\u00a0person who works in\u00a0<strong>primary care<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 health assessment and the diagnosis and treatment of ailments.
