responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communication:\n<ul>\n<li>Communication with the Lab Administrator, and the Senior Lab Administrator, with regard to the tasks that need to be completed;<\/li>\n<li>Communication with the students and lecturers in the lab at any given time with regard to the solving of the various problems that they may experience;<\/li>\n<li>Communication with the student assistants on duty to ensure the smooth running of the lab environment;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Facilities management:\n<ul>\n<li>Identify requirements for the laboratories, and make sure that the labs are being prepared for, and utilized by the classes scheduled for that tasks;<\/li>\n<li>Daily checks on the computers, tidiness of labs, and that everything needed are available;<\/li>\n<li>Monitor and maintain TuksPrint, and the relevant printers within the computer laboratory environment;<\/li>\n<li>Assist with the physical security in the labs;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Incident management:\n<ul>\n<li>Daily client liaison, and assist with any general inquiries or refer it to the designated person;<\/li>\n<li>Managing of daily inquiries in terms of lab availability, and assist clients with basic first line support;<\/li>\n<li>Provide on-going hardware and software troubleshooting service for users to manage day-to-day operating problems;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Computer based testing:\n<ul>\n<li>Assist in the solving of technical problems that might arise during computer based testing;<\/li>\n<li>Assist in general test administration;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Teamwork:\n<ul>\n<li>Backup behaviour: Involves assisting the performance of other team members. This implies that members understand other members&#8217; tasks;<\/li>\n<li>Communication: Involves the exchange of information between two or more team members in the prescribed manner;<\/li>\n<li>Coordination: Refers to team members&#8217; executing their activities in a timely and integrated manner. It implies that the performance of some team members influences the performance of other team members;<\/li>\n<li>Feedback: Involves the giving, seeking, and receiving of information among members;<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring: Observing the activities and performance of other team members;<\/li>\n<li>Team leadership: Involves providing direction, structure and support for other team members;<\/li>\n<li>Team orientation: Attitudes that team members have toward one another and the team task. It reflects acceptance of team norms, level of group cohesiveness, and importance of team membership.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grade 12 certificate,\u00a0<b>WITH<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Two years&#8217; hands on experience as a Computer Laboratory Assistant, working in an educational computing facility supporting the academic goals of the institution;<\/li>\n<li>Experience needs to include:\n<ul>\n<li>Basic client support;<\/li>\n<li>Basic hardware and software support;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>OR<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A relevant two or three year tertiary qualification with IT\/ computer related subjects, and knowledge of the Tertiary Educational environment;<\/li>\n<li>Certifications in relevant IT courses may be considered in place of IT subjects;<\/li>\n<li>(A+\/ N+\/ Windows certifications\/ network certifications\/ programming certifications\/ Novell certifications);\u00a0<b>WITH<\/b><\/li>\n<li>One year hands on experience as a Computer Laboratory assistant working in an educational computing facility, supporting the academic goals of the institution;<\/li>\n<li>Experience needs to include:\n<ul>\n<li>Basic client support;<\/li>\n<li>Basic hardware and software support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge:\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft active directory;<\/li>\n<li>Linux;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Technical competencies:\n<ul>\n<li>Hardware and software support and maintenance;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Behavioural competencies:\n<ul>\n<li>Effective supervisory skills;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to liaise with clients and resolve conflict;<\/li>\n<li>Basic client support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A three year\u2019s degree in IT or IT Education;<\/li>\n<li>Relevant certifications in IT courses;<\/li>\n<li>Two years\u2019 hands on experience as a Computer Laboratory Assistant, working in an educational computing facility supporting the academic goals of the institution;<\/li>\n<li>Experience needs to include:\n<ul>\n<li>Basic client support;<\/li>\n<li>Practical experience in computer hardware and software maintenance;<\/li>\n<li>Experience in computer-based training;<\/li>\n<li>Ability to monitor and assist in the running of the CBT system with focus on keeping the integrity of the system and the University.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.<\/p>\n<p>The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent\u2019s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
