Do you have interesting and innovative research results that can be transformed into a commercially viable business start- up? Apply for the\u00a0AGEA Business Idea Competition 2021\u00a0and stand a chance to win the top prize and receive expert support to build a business start-up.<\/p>\n<p>AGEA organises the annual Business Idea Competition to reach out, identify and support innovative and entrepreneurial solutions for Africa by African students, entrepreneurs and researchers within its network and beyond. The focus of the competition this year is on generating entrepreneurial and commercially viable solutions stemming from research at African universities that can develop into spin-off start-ups\/companies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prizes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Top 3 ideas will receive the\u00a0following prizes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First Prize\u00a0\u2013 \u20ac1,000<\/li>\n<li>Second Prize\u00a0\u2013 \u20ac500<\/li>\n<li>Third Prize\u00a0\u2013 \u20ac300<\/li>\n<li>Audience\u00a0Award\u00a0\u2013 \u20ac500<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interested persons from universities, research institutions and\u00a0other HEIs in Africa can participate in the competition.\u00a0Eligible\u00a0participants must be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students (Masters\u00a0and PhD)<\/li>\n<li>Academic\u00a0staff\u00a0(lecturers, professors) and researchers<\/li>\n<li>Early-stage\u00a0entrepreneurs\u00a0(university alumni \u2013 Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can participate in the competition as an individual or a team of a maximum of three (3) members. If you apply as a team, each member must be eligible for the competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Evaluation Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each idea will be assessed by three (3) evaluators based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Relevance<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/em>How\u00a0relevant is the problem being solved by the idea for the specified target group? How significant is the idea for the targeted market?<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Feasibility<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/em>Can the idea be realistically transformed into a product or service? Is the\u00a0right technology available to ensure the realisation of the idea?<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Market Availability:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>How attractive is the solution for potential customers in comparison to existing solutions?<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Commercial Viability and Sustainability:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0How high is the potential for success\u00a0on the market? Can the product be easily marketed to the proposed customers at a competitive price?
