AFGRI Equipment: 40 Tractor & Earthmoving Mechanic Apprenticeships 2026
Are you a young South African looking to start a career in mechanics? AFGRI Equipment is offering 40 apprenticeships for 2026. These spots are for people who want to become tractor mechanics or earthmoving mechanics.
Apprenticeship Overview
AFGRI Equipment runs a 3-year program, with a possible extension to 4 years. It is a contract apprenticeship with market-related pay. The company focuses on agriculture and machinery across South Africa.
This program mixes hands-on work in workshops with classroom learning. It prepares you for jobs in mechanical and engineering fields. Reference number is AO-2345, and there are 40 positions open.
Training Structure
The first 6 months serve as a probation period. During this time, both you and AFGRI check if it is a good fit. After that, training picks up with several parts.
You may go to practical training institutes. Distance learning happens through a college. Some Saturday classes could be needed, along with product training from suppliers and AFGRI experts. Internal technical sessions round it out.
AgriSETA and MerSETA back the program.
Skills You Will Gain
In this apprenticeship, you learn to maintain tractor and earthmoving equipment. You practice mechanical repair techniques and workshop operations. Stock control systems and customer service in technical settings are also covered.
These skills help you handle real-world repairs and daily tasks in the field.
Minimum Requirements
To apply, you need a Grade 12 certificate. A valid driver’s license is required, plus computer skills. Good communication and admin abilities help too.
Key subjects include English and Mathematics or Technical Mathematics. Mathematical Literacy does not count. Physical Science, Engineering Graphics & Design, Diesel Trade Theory, or Motor Trade Theory give you an edge.
What Makes a Good Candidate
Look for traits like high motivation and attention to detail. Team players who are goal-driven and meet deadlines stand out.
Key Conditions
Training is free if you finish successfully. You must repeat failed modules at your own cost. A work-back period follows completion. Leaving early might mean paying back costs. The full contract lasts up to 4 years.
Locations Across South Africa
AFGRI places apprentices where needed. Options include Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, Free State, and Northern Cape.
How to Apply
Applications close on 30 September 2026. Visit the AFGRI site to start. The process takes about 30 minutes with screening and assessment questions.
