“MORE THAN GENUINELY LOVING THE SONG, WE LOVED BEING THE REPRESENTATION OF WHAT IT ADVOCATES – A YOUNG, BLACK LOVE THAT HAS THE INTENTION OF SOLIDIFYING THEIR LIFETIME COMMITMENT TO EACH OTHER, REPRESENTED HERE AS MARRIAGE. WE UNDERSTOOD THE IMPLICATIONS OF DECIDING ON HOW TO BEST GO ABOUT MAKING THE GREATEST IMPACT IN ENCOURAGING A CONVERSATION OF LOVE, SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T MAKE THE HEADLINES, AND SO WE WERE BOLD IN OUR APPROACH. EVERYTHING THAT WE POSTED WAS ALL IMAGES LEADING UP TO THE VIDEO, WE JUST HADN’T ANNOUNCED THAT YET.
THOSE WHO KNOW US PERSONALLY, WHO WERE ALL NOTIFIED AND PREPARED PRIOR TO THE VIDEO DROPPING, KNOW THAT WE ARE NOT THE TYPE OF FOLK TO LET OUT THE DETAILS OF OUR PERSONAL LIVES LIKE THAT. PEOPLE KNOW OF US BEING TOGETHER BUT DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING BEYOND THAT, PARTICULARLY THE STATE OF OUR RELATIONSHIP. THAT PRIVACY REMAINS TRUE FOR OUR ENGAGEMENT AND MARRIAGE WHICH WILL REMAIN OUR PRIVATE MATTER. THOSE WHO NEED TO KNOW WILL KNOW.”

Bontle Modiselle Interview

Congratulations on joining Club 808. What was your first reaction when you found out you’ll be joining the show?
My initial reaction was a scream! I felt excitement, disbelief, and gratitude all at the same time.
Boity has left very big shoes to fill; do you feel any pressure to do as good of a job as she did if not better?
My objective is not to be her replacement, so my pressure is not in filling in replacing her on the show because the assumption then is that I need to emulate or replicate her impact and presence. I just want to be myself and deliver exceptional entertainment every week.
Your older sister, Refilwe Modiselle, has been a popular face in the entertainment industry for a very long time; did her involvement in the industry inspire you in any way to pursue the career path you’ve chosen?
Not really, if anything, she inspired the possibility of the accomplishments that can be made; regardless of whatever path I opted to take.
You’re very active on social media, more especially Instagram, how big of a role has social media played in helping get to where you are today?
I’ve had the pleasure of having people being incredibly receptive to what I’ve put out on my social media, I’m proud to have accumulated the following that I have – all on my own. Through social media, people have been able to know who about the work that I do. So to a degree, it has contributed to my career.
You are currently playing the character of Lindi on SABC 3’s Thula’s Vine, working alongside established actors who are highly respected. What are you taking from that experience?
A dear friend of mine, Zesuliwe Hadebe, who is also a cast member of the production, taught me an incredible lesson, and that is to “Pull every emotion out directly from your fallopian tubes, regardless of the scene the scene you shoot.”
Do you have any advice for aspiring dancers who would one day love to be in the space that you’re in?
Be an open vessel; be open to learning, to trial and error, but always keeping the objective in mind. It’s also important to understand the business side of the entertainment industry
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I’d love to achieve success as an all-round performer and creative, and also do more feature films. My production company, Afrique In Motion, will be a game changer in the African continent, making a global impact.
