Dis-Chem Pharmacies is opening doors for South African youth with its Dispensary Support Learnership Programme 2026. If you have Matric and want to start a career in pharmacy, this is your chance to gain hands-on skills and work experience. The programme runs in several locations and helps you qualify as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
About Dis-Chem Pharmacies
Dis-Chem Pharmacies started in 1978 and has become one of South Africa’s top retail pharmacy chains. The company sells medicines, health products, beauty items, and daily needs. With stores across the country, it offers a trusted place for customers to get healthcare support.
Details of the Dispensary Support Learnership Programme 2026
This learnership lets you complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course while working in a real pharmacy. You will mix classroom learning with on-the-job training in areas like dispensing medicines, stock control, and customer service. After finishing, you can register with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). Dis-Chem hires learners on a fixed-term contract, and top performers may get permanent jobs.
Main Responsibilities
As a learner, you will handle daily tasks in the dispensary. These include selling Schedule 1 medicines, helping prepare non-sterile medicines, and unpacking stock. You will also clean shelves, read and process prescriptions, pick and label medications, track expiry dates, and assist customers with health questions. Other duties cover patient follow-ups, call centre support, and reporting stock issues.
Minimum Requirements
To apply, you need a Grade 12 certificate with Pure Mathematics and either Physical Science or Life Science. Your Matric average must be at least 50%. These subjects prepare you for the science side of pharmacy work.
Key Skills and Competencies
Good communication and customer service skills are essential. You should pay close attention to detail, manage your time well, and use computers. Strong math skills help with stock counts, and you need to stay calm under pressure, solve problems, act professionally, and work as a team.
Reasons to Apply
This programme gives you real experience in pharmacies and retail. It leads to SAPC-recognized training and a shot at a full-time job. You will learn customer service in healthcare, build your resume, and enter a growing field.
