Overview of Globeleq Renewable Energy Bursary Program

If you are successfully enrolled with a University you can apply for a bursary.

bursary is a monetary award made by any educational institution or funding authority to individuals or groups. It is usually awarded to enable a student to attend school, university, or college when they might not be able to, otherwise. Some awards are aimed at encouraging specific groups or individuals into the study.

Globeleq South Africa Management Services has been operating in South Africa since 2012. The company produces and operates energy projects. Globeleq manages three independent power-producing utility projects such as Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm, De Aar Solar Power, and Droogfontein Solar Power. These projects resulted from the partnership of Globeleq with the South African government, Eskom and private sector businesses, and local neighborhoods. Globeleq, a leading operator of electricity production in Africa owns Globeleq South Africa Management Services as a subsidiary.

Globeleq Renewable Energy Bursary Application Details 2022-2022

The Renewable Energy Scholarship Fund (RESF) was founded in 2014 and is being managed by Globeleq that owns three renewable energy facilities in South Africa. These energy facilities include the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm, Droogfontein Solar Power, and De Aar Solar Power, who also finance RESF funds. The three energy facilities produce power independently and are the first large-scale renewable power plants built in South Africa.

The Fund helps mechatronic, electrical, and electro-mechanical engineering students to finish their education, in order to work for renewable energy and other engineering sectors. This is in line with RESF’s aims to address the demand in the renewable energy industry for qualified engineers, create a continuous flow of skills that are necessary for the company as well as contribute to the energy industry and the country.

The following institutions are accepted for the Renewable Energy Scholarship Fund:

  • University of Johannesburg
  • Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University
  • Walter Sisulu University
  • Cape Peninsula University of Technology
  • Central University of Technology
  • Durban University of Technology
  • Mangosuthu University of Technology
  • Tshwane University of Technology

The RESF covers the costs of course fees, registration fees, accommodation and meal allowance, books and other learning materials costs and living expenses.

Upon completion of studies, scholars are expected to perform a service obligation of 12 months. Scholars may also be selected for an Internship program, towards the completion of their qualification. However, internships are not guaranteed for each scholar.

Globeleq Scholarship Requirements and Eligibility

  • South African citizens
  • Students of mechatronic/electrical/electromechanical engineering towards a National Diploma or Bachelor’s in Technology qualifications
  • Upcoming 2nd year or higher in the next academic year
  • Interest in renewable energy

How to Apply and Application Details

Currently closed but will reopen within June 2020. Once reopened, visit https://www.globeleq.co.za/work-for-globeleq/globeleq-scholarships/apply-for-a-scholarship/scholarship-programme/ and click on the latest application form found on the bottom of the page. Follow the instructions to complete the application form and upload the documents that will be required.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview, which will take place either at your institution or at a venue nearby, in the month of October. Applicants will be informed of the final results of applications around the month of January.
