About the Gedex Apprenticeship Programme

Gold One New Shelf 1186, known as Gedex Operations, runs a gold mine in Brakpan, about 30 kilometers east of Johannesburg. The 2026 apprenticeship program builds skills in mining and engineering trades. Participants get practical training underground, which prepares them for steady jobs in the industry. The program runs in Springs, Benoni, and Brakpan areas.

Available Apprenticeship Fields

The program covers six trades where you can specialize:

• Instrumentation: Work with control systems and sensors in mining equipment.
• Fitter: Assemble and maintain machinery parts for smooth operations.
• Earthmoving Mechanics: Repair heavy vehicles like loaders and dump trucks used in mining.
• Boilermaking: Build and fix metal structures and pressure vessels.
• Electrical: Install and service electrical systems in the mine.
• Auto Electrical: Handle wiring and electronics in mine vehicles.

Each field gives real-world experience to become a skilled artisan.

Minimum Requirements

To apply, you must meet these standards:

• Hold an N2 or NCV Level 4 qualification.
• Provide certified copies of your qualifications and ID (no older than 3 months, in PDF format).
• Show strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Be flexible for shift work and able to work underground.
• Be a South African citizen with a clear criminal record (they will screen you).
• Pass a medical fitness check.
• Be under 35 years old.
• Submit proof of residence.

Preference goes to people from Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, wards 71, 72, 73, 75, and 97. Others can still apply.
