Design Thinking for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Innovation Brew: How might we reinvent coffee?
Use gdcTHiNK to reinvent coffee and create a better all-round caffeinated experience.

Business thrives on coffee and coffee is big business. But the whole experience of buying, brewing, drinking and finishing up after your coffee can leave a bitter taste in your mouth. Identify the pain points in your quest for the perfect cup of joe and use the design thinking process to reinvent coffee and create a better all-round caffeinated (or decaf) experience.
The purpose of the workshop is to introduce participants to user-centred design thinking as a method for solving problems creatively and for driving innovation and entrepreneurship. It is a practical workshop based on a learning-by-doing approach. The workshop follows the format of a high-energy design sprint, where participants work in teams to complete a design challenge in four hours. In doing so, the participants are exposed to different aspects of design thinking and are guided through the phases of the design process in a practical, fun and hands-on workshop.
Price: Grade 10, 11 & 12 Learners – R350
School Teachers – R500 to earn 5 CPD POINTS
IID Members – R1500 to earn 2 CPD POINTS

Learn the basic tools of Sketchup and turn your imagination into three-dimensional drawings of environments or objects. Render the drawings in SU Podium.

3D DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION
This course will teach you the basic principles of 3D illustration. You will learn how to create basic meshes from 2D profiles, material application, lighting, fluid simulation and rendering.

DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION
Learn how to draw and colour in Adobe’s powerful Illustration package, and how to do digital painting and collaging in Photoshop.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Learn how to use the functions of a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera, control shutter speed, depth of field and film speed. This workshop will also cover the basic principle of photography, which will include composition and lighting.

TEXTILE DESIGN
The need for fabric with a unique South African identity provides ample opportunities for a young entrepreneur. Printed fabric with a South African identity will provide the young fashion designer, interior designer, crafter or fine artist with the opportunity to develop a unique product for the local or international market.
