Details of Kinship Conservation Workshop

Applications are open for the Kinship Conservation Workshop: India 2020. The Kinship Conservation Workshop: India will train local conservationists in the use of incentives to solve local conservation challenges.
During this five-day workshop, participants will learn how economic tools can be applied to enhance community-based conservation projects, study the successes and failures of incentive-based conservation in India, as well as globally, and be introduced to alternative pathways to achieve conservation impact. The Kinship Conservation Workshop: India will take place from January 6 – 10, 2020 in Nandi Hills, outside of Bangalore.
Topics covered in the workshop include:

  • Theory and global experiences in the use of incentives for community-based conservation
  • The history and state of incentive-based conservation in India
  • The role of economic principles in incentive-based conservation
  • Local experiences with water, carbon and ecotourism from Latin America, Africa and Asia
  • Exploring the role of entrepreneurship, systems thinking and human-centered design in conservation
  • Bringing it together: the future of incentive-based conservation in India

Participants will attend lectures and field discussions, and will take an all-day field trip to see incentive-based conservation projects in action.
Cost

  • Kinship Foundation will cover all workshop expenses, including lodging, food, classroom materials and field trips. Participants must arrange and pay for their transportation expenses to/from Bangalore. Limited travel assistance is available for those who qualify.

Eligibility

  • Open to early- to mid-career Indian conservation practitioners with at least three years of experience in natural resource management, preferably with some knowledge of incentive-based conservation tools. Space is limited to 30 attendees.
