Deputy President Paul Mashatile categorically denied claims made by Sergeant Fannie Nkosi at the Madlanga Commission on March 24, 2026. Nkosi alleged that Mashatile met Vusimuzi Cat Matlala or that Matlala planned to meet him. These claims raise questions about possible connections in the ongoing inquiry. The Presidency issued a full response, which provides key details on Mashatile’s position and readiness to assist.

Sergeant Fannie Nkosi testified at the Madlanga Commission that Deputy President Mashatile met Vusimuzi Cat Matlala, or at least that Matlala intended to meet him. The Presidency took note of these statements right away.

“Deputy President Mashatile has noted claims made by Sergeant Nkosi at the Madlanga Commission earlier today. He categorically rejects Sergeant Nkosi’s claims and is prepared to cooperate with the Madlanga Commission fully should the Commission require any clarity or assistance from him,” the Presidency said on Monday.

Mashatile stated that he does not know Sergeant Nkosi or Vusimuzi Cat Matlala. He has never had any association or dealings with them. Most importantly, Mashatile was out of the country when the alleged meeting was supposed to happen or did happen.

“Of greater significance is that the Deputy President was out of the country at the time that Matlala purportedly met with him or intended to do so,” the Presidency said. – SAnews.gov.za

This detail strengthens his rejection of the claims.
