The National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations concluded on 28 November 2024, and the Minister of Basic Education, Ms Siviwe Gwarube, will announce the outcome on 13 January 2025. Candidates will receive their results on 14 January 2025. Some results may not be available because of technical issues.

  • Candidates are urged to get their statements of results from the school or center where they wrote the exams. Candidates’ results will also be available on this website from 6 a.m. on 14 January 2025.
  • Result queries should be submitted for investigation within 30 days after the release of results.
  • Candidates must ensure that names and identity numbers reflect correctly on their statement of results and report any required corrections to the Department before 21 February 2025.

RE-MARK/RE-CHECK OF EXAM SCRIPT

A candidate may apply at the prescribed fee for the re-mark/re-check of his/her examination scripts. Registration can be done at either the school or district office in the province or online at www.eservices.gov.za (all instructions appear on the reverse side of the Statement of Results).

Closing date for applications: 31 January 2025 for both manual applications and online applications.

Fees for re-marking and re-checking per subject:

Re-mark : R116.00
Re-check : R29.00

Viewing of scripts may only be done after a re-mark or re-check of results. The closing date for applications is 7 days after release of re-mark or re-check results. The fee for viewing is R220.00

Results of remarking will be released from 14 March 2025 and will be available at the school/exam centre where the candidate sat for their 2024 examinations.

JUNE 2025 NSC EXAMS

The supplementary examination in February/March has been phased out and is therefore no longer available. A new examination is available during May/June where candidates can improve their results or complete outstanding results. The closing date for application for 2025 is 7 February 2025.

Conditions for entry

  • Candidates can only register for subjects which they were registered for in any previous November examination.
  • Candidates who were absent with a valid reason (medical unfit, death in the immediate family or other special reasons*) from one or more external question papers, may register for the NSC June examination, provided they have valid external paper marks (PAT, Oral and SBA).
  • Any NSC candidate (who wrote exams from 2008 November onwards) who wants to improve their overall achievement status, or only wants to improve the achievement of a subject, may register for the NSC June examination.
  • In the case where a candidate was absent for one or more papers in the November exam with a valid reason, the candidate has to write all the papers for the registered subject(s).
  • In a case where an irregularity is being investigated, provisional enrolment for NSC June examination may be granted to the candidate concerned, pending the outcome of the investigation.
  • Candidates who did not write or complete one or more of the NSC November examination question papers for reasons other than illness/injury or death in the family, may also apply to write the NSC June examination, provided they have valid external paper marks (PAT, Oral and SBA).
  • Result queries should be submitted for investigation within 30 days after the release of results.
  • Candidates must ensure that names and identity numbers reflect correctly on their statement of results and report any required corrections to the Department before 30/08/2024.

What can I do if I do not qualify to write the June NSC examination?

Candidates, who do not qualify to write the June NSC examination, have the following options:

  • Re-enrol for the NSC as a full-time repeater candidate at a school without delay, provided that the candidate is younger than 21 years of age. Candidates need to enrol for 7 subjects(including Life Orientation) and have to comply with all SBA requirements.
  • Register as a part-time repeater candidate at a Public Adult Education Centre.
  • Register for the Senior Certificate (SC) examination which is a school leaving qualification for adults and out-of school learners who are above 21 years of age.
  • Alternatively, candidates that were not successful in their examinations could consider vocational education and training. There are 50 Public Further Education and Training (FET) colleges across all provinces of South Africa comprising over 300 campuses or teaching sites.

Matric Results 2024: Five 5 Steps to Check your Matric Results Online

1.) You can visit the Western Cape Education Department’s website (available from 2 pm onwards).

2.) Go to your high school, Results should be available there.

3.) Send your ID number and exam number via SMS to 35658. Both numbers must have 13 digits to be accepted and there is a once-off cost of R3.00 to register. Once registration is completed, results will be delivered by SMS when they are released.

4.) Use the USSD service by dialing *120*35658#. After answering multiple questions, enter your ID number. You’ll receive your results per subject after you’ve completed the process. You’ll have the option to opt-in or out to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act. USSD rates apply.

5.) Names of successful candidates will be published in newspapers. You’ll need to know your exam number, which will be used instead of your name.

Here are some frequently asked questions to help you take the next step, whether you’ve passed or not:

What are Bachelor’s, Diploma and Certificate passes?

A Bachelor’s Pass means you can apply for a degree course at a university or university of technology and may study for a higher certificate, diploma or bachelor’s degree.

To achieve a  Bachelor’s pass, you must:

  • Pass 6 of the 7 subjects offered.
  • Of which 4 Subjects must be at least a 50% (level 4) achievement.
  • Including Home Language 40% Compulsory Pass /excluding Life Orientation.
  • 30% Pass in the Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT).
  • The Department of Basic Education has revoked the list of designated subjects with effect from September 2018.
  • The minimum admission requirements for a Bachelor’s degree programme remain the same, namely, a NSC with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the Higher Education Institution (HEI), coupled with an achievements rating of 4 (50-59%) or better in any four (4) NSC subject except Life Orientation.

A Diploma Pass requires 40% in 4 higher credit subjects, 30% in 3 lower credit subjects, and you may fail 1 subject. With this pass, you can enroll for a bridging course at a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college or a diploma course at a university of technology.

To receive a Diploma Pass, a student must:

  • Pass 6 of the 7 subjects offered.
  • Of which 4 Subjects must be at least a 40% (level 3) achievement
  • Subjects include Home Language at 40% Compulsory Pass /excluding Life Orientation
  • 30% Pass in Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT)

A Certificate Pass requires a 40% pass in your home language, 2 subjects above 40%, 4 subjects above 30% and you may fail 1 subject. This pass allows you to study for a Higher Certificate.

I was unsuccessful, what do I do now?

If you need support, we provide counseling and support on our toll-free line 0800 45 46 47. You could also consider rewriting your exam. This is known as the supplementary exam. You qualify to rewrite if you’ve failed 2 or more subjects.

Only candidates who were registered for and wrote the November 2024 NSC examination may apply to write a supplementary exam.

Grade 12 learners may register to write the examination if:

  • they failed to meet the requirements in the November examination;
  • they passed but seek to improve their performance; or
  • they were absent from the writing of one or more question papers due to ill-health or other unforeseen circumstances.

WCED Examination Client Service Centre at Grand Central and on the WCED website.

What if I want to have my papers remarked?

To have your paper remarked, you would need to have failed 1 or more subjects in the National Senior Certificate/ABET Level 4 Examinations. However, if you passed, you may qualify after writing a letter of motivation. The WCED provides more guidelines here.

No late applications will be accepted and the applications MUST be done online at www.eservices.gov.za

The cost for remarking is R112 per subject, re-checking is R27 per subject, and viewing of scripts (only after re-marking and re-checking) is R219.

Once you have received your results, AFTER re-checking and re-marking, you may apply to view your answer script.
