About the merSETA Internship Programme
merSETA is a public entity set up under the Skills Development Act. It works to improve skills in areas such as manufacturing, engineering, automotive body building, and plastics. The internship provides hands-on training at the head office in Parktown, Johannesburg, or regional offices across South Africa.
Programme Overview
The Graduate Internship Programme lasts 24 months. It targets unemployed South Africans aged 18 to 35. You need some work experience, but no past internships. Positions are available nationwide.
Monthly Stipend
Interns receive a stipend based on their qualification level. A National Diploma at NQF Level 6 pays R10,000 per month. A Bachelor’s or BTech at NQF Level 7 pays R11,000 per month. An Honours or postgraduate degree at NQF Level 8 or higher pays R12,000 per month.
Available Internship Fields
Head Office (Parktown, Johannesburg)
Several roles are open at the head office. These include four posts in Learning Programmes & QA, four in Grants Management, and one in Legal & Compliance. Other fields have two posts in Human Resources, three in Finance, and three in Sector Skills Planning & Research. There are also spots in ICT, Supply Chain Management, and more.
Regional Offices (Nationwide)
Client Services roles total 16 posts. Each region gets two, covering provinces like Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Free State, and Northern Cape.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, you must be a South African citizen aged 18 to 35 and currently unemployed. You cannot have done an internship before. You need a National Diploma, Degree, or Honours in a related field.
Required Fields of Study
The program seeks graduates in specific areas. These include Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Law, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Project Management, ICT, Computer Science, Supply Chain, Logistics, Social Sciences, Skills Development, Engineering, and Quality Systems.
