Who Can Apply?
This bursary is open to South African citizens between 17 and 35 years old. Applicants must reside within the Nkangala District Municipality area in Mpumalanga. This includes residents from the following local municipalities: Dr JS Moroka, Emakhazeni, Emalahleni, Steve Tshwete, Thembisile Hani, or Victor Khanye.
Applicants must come from a historically disadvantaged background and demonstrate financial need. The total household income must not exceed R180,000 per year. Successful applicants will be required to enter into a contractual agreement with the municipality.
Academic Requirements
Applicants must either be currently in Matric or have already completed Matric. They must be studying or intend to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the approved fields at a recognised and accredited public institution in South Africa. This includes universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges.
Students already enrolled at university must have achieved at least a 60% overall average for the 2026 academic year. Students enrolled at a TVET college must have achieved at least a 50% overall average for the 2026 academic year.
Financial Need Requirement
A key requirement for this bursary is demonstrating financial need. Applicants’ total household income must not exceed R180,000 per year. This ensures that the bursary supports those who genuinely require financial assistance to pursue their education.

Applicants must submit a completed bursary application form along with supporting documents. These include certified identification, academic records, proof of household income, and proof of residence.
Applicants currently in Matric should include their Grade 11 final results and latest Matric results. Those who have completed Matric should include their Matric certificate. Current university or TVET college students must provide their most recent academic record on the institution’s letterhead. Proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution, if available, and a motivational letter are also required.
