Overview of SANZAF Zakah Bursary Program
If you are successfully enrolled with a University you can apply for a bursary.
A bursary is a monetary award made by any educational institution or funding authority to individuals or groups. It is usually awarded to enable a student to attend school, university, or college when they might not be able to, otherwise. Some awards are aimed at encouraging specific groups or individuals into the study.
The South African National Zakáh Fund (SANZAF) aims to help empower families in need. The organization is a socio-welfare and faith-based institution that collects and efficiently distribute wealth to support the Islamic community.
SANZAF Zakah Bursary Application Details 2022/2023
SANZAF Zakah Bursary intends to improve moral / ethical issues of the applicant and the applicant’s family. The priority for the bursary are those who belong to the poverty-stricken families such as unemployed individuals, low-income households as well as people who are indebted for some uncontrollable circumstances.

Applicants are required first to apply to the “2022 Fully subsidised FREE higher education and training” for South Africans by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). The closing date for NSFAS is on the 30th of November 2022. After securing the application from NSFAS, Bursary Application Form will be available on the 1st December 2022 for Gauteng bursary applicants.
Kimberley, Ladysmith and Pietermaritzburg Bursary application forms will be available on the 1st day of December 2022.
Alternatively, applicants can contact their respective places below to inquire about the SANZAF bursary application form for the next academic year, as well as the application process.
The Bursary Committee will review and shortlist potential candidates. Interview dates, venues and time slots will be communicated through email. Interviews will be conducted afterward, and all applicants should make sure that they are available on dates specified.
All supporting documentation must be submitted on or before the closing date, otherwise the application will result in disqualification. Candidates will receive feedback regarding application status by the month of February. A Confirmation of Pledge letter after the month of February will be given to successful candidates which will indicate the dates by which payments will be made. The pledged amount will be paid in one installment. All payments will be made directly into the institution on behalf of the successful applicants and they are not entitled to withdraw any funds paid by SANZAF. Applicants are responsible for their own registration fees.
