The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) initiated the Central Application Service (CAS) Pilot to streamline the applications for undergraduate studies to any post-school education and training institution in South Africa.

Central Application Service (CAS) Pilot Application Information.

  • 2026 Entry CAS Applications for Pilot Schools opens on 01 April 2025.
  • The CACH service for 2025 will open from 8am on 20 January 2025 until 31 March 2025. This service is open to ALL learners (from Pilot and Non-Pilot Schools) who have not yet received a place to study at a post-school institution. Go to https://cach.cas.ac.za/ for more info.

You can apply here if:

  1. You are a learner at one of the participating pilot schools – click here to see the list of schools AND
  2. You wish to apply to one or more of the Universities and/or TVET Colleges participating (click here to see the list of participating institutions)

To complete your online application, you must have:

  1. Your school EMIS number (which you can get from your LO teacher)
  2. Your ID/Passport number. If you do not have an ID card/document as yet, use the ID number indicated on your birth certificate
  3. Your latest school results

Fields marked with an asterisk ( * ) must be completed. You will not be able to continue with your application without completing these fields.

If you do not have copies of your ID and results to upload, you may still complete your application and upload these documents at a later date.

Once you have entered all the information on your application, you will be able to check it and make any changes if needed before submitting it. Once submitted, you will have an opportunity to print a copy of your application.

I hereby declare that I am 18 (eighteen) years of age or older and of full legal capacity to complete my application to the institutions of my choice. I further declare that all the information supplied in my application and supporting documents are true to the best of my knowledge and that none of the information requested has been withheld.

I have read and understand the terms and conditions in the current CAS website, and I understand that my application may not be processed until CAS has received (a) this signed Declaration and Informed Consent, (b) fully completed Application as indicated in the current CAS website, (c) paid the relevant administration fee indicated in the CAS website. I agree that the CAS should proceed with processing my application even if it is after the closing date for some or all of the qualifications I have selected. I understand and accept that the administration fee is not refundable. I have checked whether I meet the minimum requirements of the qualifications for which I am applying.

I undertake to notify the CAS if there is any change to my circumstances, which would mean that the information previously supplied is no longer accurate or complete. I undertake to inform the CAS of any incorrect or incomplete information brought to my attention through the Acknowledgement Letter that will be sent to me as soon as my application is processed. Failure to inform the CAS of any such incorrect or incomplete information within 7 days after the Acknowledgement Letter has been sent to me will result in all the information provided being assumed as correct. I accept that each institution applies its own selection criteria and procedures and that the selection decisions, once made, may change, dependent on their internal policies. I agree that if I knowingly or carelessly provided untrue or incomplete information with this application, the institution/s to which I have applied may in their sole discretion deal with this application in terms of their institutional policies. They may also withdraw any offer of admission, whether accepted or not or require me to withdraw from the institution.

I undertake to submit to the CAS any documentation not included with this Declaration and Informed Consent form, including but not limited to, certified copies of any outstanding examination results as soon as they are available or when requested to do so.

Informed Consent

By completing this application, I hereby agree to provide the Central Application Service (CAS) with my personal information, based on the following:

Type of Information: Name, surname, address, email address, telephone number, next-of-kin details, citizenship, gender, population group, marital status, home language, present occupation, disabilities, high school where Grade 12 was completed or is being completed, qualification choices for post-school study, highest qualification, declaration by applicant/parent/guardian, financial aid required, and residence required.

Storage, Sharing and Retention of Information: All personal information that you provide to the CAS will be held and/or stored securely and held for the purpose so indicated. The information will be stored electronically on our database and on the databases of the post school institutions to which we have made it available. Hard copies that you may provide will be stored in our documents archive and will only be available to the post-school institution where you have been accepted and registered. Records of personal information may be retained subject to S14 of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI).

Purpose: The information will be used to process your application for admission to one or more of our partnering institutions and/or to keep you informed of the progress of your application or of any qualifications that may be of value to you.

Further Processing: CAS may provide your information to educational institutions, other than those listed in your application. If needed, provided that:

  1. Such educational institutions have entered into a Confidentiality Agreement with CAS, and
  2. The information so provided be used solely for the intended purpose, namely for admission to tertiary or any other form of education.

It may also share your information with NSFAS, SAQA or other regulatory bodies stated in Government Gazette, 2 November 2017, “POLICY FOR THE POST-SCHOOL EDUCATION AND TRAINING CENTRAL APPLICATION SERVICE POLICY, S11”.

Source: Information will be collected from you, USAf, and your final Grade 12 NSC results will be directly downloaded from the Department of Basic Education (DBE) or from the Independent Examination Board (IEB), or any other UMALUSI accredited examination authority, whichever is relevant. Your ID will be verified with the Department of Home Affairs.

Voluntary or Mandatory: Provision of the information is voluntary.

Consequences of not Providing: If you do not provide all the information requested on the application form, your application will be incomplete and may not be processed and/or may not be considered by the institution(s).

Recipients of Information: Central Application Service, Gate 11, Mary Thiphe Road, Glenwood, Durban, 4001 OR Private Bag X06, Dalbridge, Durban, 4014 and relevant post-school institutions.

Direct Marketing, Advertising and Promotional Activities: The CAS will not use your personal information for purposes other than for which it is collected.

Access and Right to Amend: While the information is on the CAS’s system, access to and right to amend the information will not be unreasonably withheld.

Right to Object: In terms of S 11(3) of POPI, you have the right to object in the prescribed manner to the CAS. On receipt of your objection, the CAS will place a hold on any further processing until the cause of the objection has been resolved.

Complaints: You have the right to lodge a complaint to the Administrator of the Central Application Service and/or to the Information Regulator.

I fully understand and accept that:

  • I am supplying the information required on the application form voluntarily and without any undue influence from any party.
  • Failure to provide this information may result in my application not being processed.

I am aware that I have the following rights with regard to my personal information being collected:

  • I have the right to access my information and to rectify any information that is collected from me.
  • I may object to the processing of my personal information.
  • I may lodge a complaint to the Administrator of the Central Application Service and/or the Information Regulator whose contact details are posted on the CAS website.

Declaration and Informed Consent: I declare that all personal information supplied to the CAS for the purposes of applying for post school placement is accurate, up to date, is not misleading and that it is complete in all respects. I undertake to immediately advise the CAS of any changes to my personal information, should any of these details change. I furthermore give the CAS permission to process my personal information, as provided in my application documentation, and sourced from DBE, USAf, IEB, Home Affairs, and acknowledge that I understand the purpose for which it is required and for which it will be used.
