North-West University (NWU) Bursaries 2022 – NSFAS Financial Support.

The North-West University (NWU) currently offers financial aid/support to students who are financially needy and who show academic potential.

Interested undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate Programmes students are required to apply annually for financial aid and grants.

Funding for such financial aid is made through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and hence the size of any award is determined according to the NSFAS means test.

ASSMANG Pty Ltd – Manganese Division requires the services of Bursars at their Black Rock Mine Operations situated 80km North-West of Kuruman in the Northern Cape. Bursaries, inclusive of tuition fees, accommodation and prescribed books, are available in the following fields of study:

  • Mining Engineering – (Bachelor of Technology: Mining Engineering / Advanced Diploma: Mining Engineering Bachelor of Science: Mining Engineering)
  • Rock Engineering – (Bachelor of Technology: Mining Engineering or Geology or Physics / Advanced Diploma: Mining Engineering or Geology or Physics / Bachelor of Science: Mining Engineering or Geology or Physics)

SELECTION CRITERIA

Matriculants

  • The minimum qualifying level for Matriculants is a Bachelor pass / University exemption with outstanding achievements in both Mathematics and Science in the final-year examination.
  • Preference is given to learners who have University acceptance for the new academic year within the specified fields of study mentioned.
  • Preference is given to learners from a disadvantaged background with financial constraints and in terms of the company’s Employment Equity requirements.
  • Preference is given to learners from the local community within the Northern Cape province.
  • Applicants already receiving a bursary or financial aid from another institution will not be considered.

University Students

  • Students enrolled in full-time studies at a South African University or University of Technology.
  • Students studying towards a Bachelor’s Degree, Advanced Diploma or Bachelor of Technology, within their 2nd, 3rd OR 4th year of study.
  • Applicants who are currently enrolled in a field of study specified above.
  • Sound academic record with an average B-symbol and pass mark for all subjects, including final-year examination results plus admission to the University.
  • Preference is given to learners from a disadvantaged background with financial constraints and in terms of the company’s Employment Equity requirements.
  • Preference is given to learners from the local community within the Northern Cape province.
  • Applicants already receiving a bursary or financial aid from another institution will not be considered.

DOCUMENTS & APPLICATION

Documents to be submitted as part of the application:

  • An updated CV and supporting documents of achievements (including Identity document).
  • Recent academic record as well as an academic record of years of study completed thus far (where applicable) OR Matric school report of last written November/ December examinations.
  • Proof of current registration at the University or University of Technology OR Proof of having completed Matric (Grade 12).
  • Official proof of residential address.

Appointment notes:

  • Shortlisted candidates will undergo an interview, psychometric evaluation and medical fitness assessment as per the Mine Health and Safety Act 29/1996.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to authenticate information provided in CV’s.
  • Contractual obligations will be communicated upon appointment.
  • Late applications will not be entertained.
  • If you have not been contacted within 21 days after the closing date, please consider your application to be unsuccessful. Correspondence will only be limited to shortlisted candidates.

Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) 2022 Bursary Applications

 

Applications are open for the following:
  • Students who completed matric and reside in Gauteng –proof of residence required.
  • Students intending to study an undergraduate programme and have been accepted at an accredited PSET institution of learning and/or is currently registered for such.
  • Students who want to pursue Post-Graduate studies and have been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning.
The following students automatically qualify, but must also complete the application forms online:
  • Top Achievers from Gauteng schools
  • Top 3 learners from no-fee paying schools in Gauteng
  • Top 3 learners from LSEN schools in Gauteng
To qualify for a GCRA bursary award you must be:
  • A South African citizen
  • Youth residing in Gauteng between the ages of 18 to 35 years

Key requirements:

  • Certified copy of South African ID (by birth)
  • Proof of Gauteng residence
  • Matric certificate and or latest academic results (certified)
  • Proof of income from parent/s or guardian/s or affidavit
  • Letter of motivation (not more than 2 pages)
  • Proof of registration or acceptance letter from PSET institution
  • Disability/ medical report (where applicable)

2022 OMET Applications

The Old Mutual Education Trust (OMET) was founded in April 2005 by Old Mutual as part of a BBBEE transaction with 10 unions with whom Old Mutual has a business relationship. The scholarship is open to all participating union members and their dependents. This allows for the pursuit of any tertiary qualification at one of South Africa’s public higher education institutions. OMET also supports the personal, academic and professional success of their students by providing: computers, tutoring, access to counselling services and preparation for the world of work.
What does the scholarship offer?
  • Graduates’ transition into OMET’s Alumni programme where they continue as mentors and motivators to current students
  • They will get partial funding (R65 000 in 2020)
  • Access to tutoring support
  • Computers to 1st year entrants into the programme
  • A holistic student support programme focused on academic success, psychological/ emotional well-being and preparation for the world of work
  • A peer buddy support system by senior students for 1st year students
  • A full mentorship programme for final year students delivered by OMET Alumni

The selection process is based on the academic ability of the applicant and in cases of a tie, the field of study, financial circumstances and gender are considered. OMET has a selection committee comprised of 4 senior people within the higher education sector – this committee audits and verifies the process. Final approval for the scholarships is granted by the OMET board at an official board meeting.

The following persons may apply for the OMET scholarship:

  • A child of a member or employee (inclusive of an adopted child or a stepchild)
  • A grandchild or other child blood relation of a member or employee which is financially supported solely by the member or employee and is not older than 25 years old
  • A spouse of a member or employee or
  • Living together with the member or employee in a relationship akin to a marriage
