Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for the effective and efficient handling of student administration affairs in the Student Administration Office of the Faculty of Education, with specific reference to:

  • Coordinating all degree ceremony programmes and degree ceremony activities of the Faculty;
  • Planning and organising activities for the faculty student administration in consultation with Management;
  • Performing undergraduate and postgraduate student administration including applications and admissions, registration, degree audits, examination, finalists and graduation processes;
  • Advising students (including international students) with regards to admission requirements and curricula;
  • Handling of matters concerning the course catalogue, fixed curricula of degree
  • programmes and prerequisites of modules;
  • Liaising with a broad spectrum of relevant stakeholders (e.g. prospective students, applicants, registered students, finalists, graduates, supervisors and external examiners);
  • Delivering an exceptional and client-friendly service to students and all stakeholders involved in the student administrative processes at the University.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • B-degree or an applicable three-year qualification;
  • Three years’ experience with direct involvement with graduation programmes and student administration activities at a tertiary institution.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Appropriate language and communication skills to ensure effective interaction with diverse clientele;
  • Organizational skills;
  • Interpersonal and conflict management skills, and
  • The ability to effectively work under pressure;
  • Computer literacy with a broad knowledge of and experience in the use of MS Office packages, the internet, GroupWise and PeopleSoft;
  • The ability to work independently, but to also function effectively within a team;
  • Accuracy and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Five years’ experience with the planning and coordination of graduation programmes and student administration
  • Valid Driver’s Licence.

 

PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.

 

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
